Ammonia coefficient

Ammonia coefficient

It is expressed by the following ratio:

Ammonia coefficient=Ammonia nitrogen of urine / Total nitrogen of urine  x 100.

Normally it is about 5%. It serves as a guide to the state of acidosis or alkalosis in the body. In acidosis ammonium salts will be more, hence, the ratio will rise. In alkalosis it will fall.
