Food groups
According to some nutritionists there are in all
seven basic food groups to prepare a diet chart-
- ·
grains and cereals
- ·
dairy products
- ·
Animal origin foods- meats, fish, eggs
- ·
butter, oils
- ·
green leafy and yellow vegetables
- ·
fruits
- ·
potatoes and other starchy vegetables
While others suggest four main groups such as
- ·
breads and cereals (carbohydrate)
- ·
milk, meats, fish, eggs (protein)
- ·
oils and fat (fats)
- ·
vegetables and fruits (vitamins &
minerals)
However the diet should be balanced, containing all
the items of food in adequate proportions which will supply the required energy
in the body as well as to provide all essential nutrients maintain proper
growth, normal cytoarchitecture and functioning of the body.
Diets in a particular disease are prescribed as per
the individual requirements of a person.
